History@Hand is a history consulting firm formed in 2001 by Jan Schochet and Sharon Fahrer. Its partners specialize in applied history, collecting people’s stories and putting research into usable forms such as exhibits and books. Projects often center on community history using a combination of oral history collecting and primary material research (documents).

Jan Schochet is an Asheville native. Her family has lived in Asheville since 1887, many of them running businesses downtown until 2006. She has a B.A. in American Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. She earned her M.A. in Folklore from the Cooperstown Graduate Programs.

Sharon Fahrer moved to Asheville in 1996 partly because of its rich history and architecture. She began the Family Store Project with Jan to capture the memories of people who remembered Asheville downtown in its prime and to better understand her adopted home. Sharon has a B.A. in Geography from Clark University and a Masters of Urban Planning from Wayne State University.
